Charleston Bands: A Tradition of Excellence

The Charleston Band is made up of 125 students in grades 6-12, making it one of the largest organizations in the Charleston School District. The bands are under the direction of Joshua Uhrich and Mike Mankins. The band program is comprised of the Beginning Band, Middle School Band, Jazz Band, Tiger Marching Band, and High School Concert Band. Band members are offered many performance opportunities throughout the year, including chamber ensemble performances, band concerts, the Beginning Band Showcase, Middle School Band Night, Night of Percussion, football games, marching contests, and marching and concert assessments. Band students have the opportunity to achieve individual honors in All-Star, All-Region, and All-State band auditions and in Solo & Ensemble. Several band students earn places in honor bands every year.

The Charleston Bands have earned numerous region, state, and national honors. In 2019, under the direction of Ms. Jessica Holt, the Charleston High School Concert Band was invited to perform as a demonstration ensemble at The Midwest Clinic in Chicago with clinician Richard Saucedo. The band was also named the 2019 Arkansas 3A Honor Ensemble and performed a concert at the Arkansas All-State Music Conference. The bands consistently earn superior ratings at the Region VIII Concert Assessment. In 2019, the Charleston Middle School Band earned straight superior ratings at concert assessment. The Tiger Marching Band regularly earns superior ratings at the Region VIII Marching Assessment and the Charleston High School Concert Band has earned superior ratings at concert assessment for the past 12 years.

We firmly believe that all students can be successful in band. Our band students are well-rounded and we encourage them to pursue multiple interests. Every team and organization on campus is represented in the band program, including football, basketball, baseball, softball, archery, golf, track, cheer, dance, rodeo, and robotics, to name a few. We ensure that our band students have access to the highest quality instruction, equipment, and repertoire in a safe, structured, challenging, inclusive, and caring environment.
